The ex-husband of Katie Walker, a mother of two who vanished in Sydney, Australia, in May, has broken his silence, detailing a significant transformation in her behavior and appearance after a trip to Dubai. Dean Taraborelli, a US-based wellness guru, stated that he barely recognized Ms. Walker upon her return from the Middle East.

Ms. Walker, 46, was last seen on CCTV on May 23, wearing high-heeled boots, jeans, a black coat, and carrying a distinctive Versace handbag. Her family reported her missing ten days later. Police suspect she may have fallen into the ocean while walking along the Bondi to Coogee coastal path, but friends and family dispute this, citing her attire and the unlikelihood of such an event occurring unnoticed.

Evidence suggesting Ms. Walker was preparing to leave Australia includes two packed suitcases found in her apartment and a call she made to a travel agency regarding tickets out of the country. Her phone also registered at a tower in Bondi hours after her last sighting.

Adding to the mystery, Ms. Walker's social media profiles, Telegram account, and images from her jewelry website have been systematically deleted. A friend, who asked not to be identified for safety reasons, told media outlets that Ms. Walker believed she was being stalked in both Dubai and Sydney and now suspects she may be a victim of human trafficking.

Taraborelli, who was married to Ms. Walker for six years until their divorce in 2024, said she underwent a dramatic change after traveling to Dubai in late 2023. "She was suddenly really dressed up with fake eyelashes and taking all these pictures with rich people in Dubai and putting them on social media," he stated. "I barely recognized her."

He noted that in Arizona, where they lived, Ms. Walker typically wore flip-flops, shorts, and loose tops. Her ex-husband suggested her erratic behavior, recklessness with money, and temper might be linked to borderline personality disorder (BPD), though he emphasized she never received a formal diagnosis and he never knew her to be delusional or suicidal. During their marriage, they lived at his luxury rehabilitation facility, The Sanctuary, where Ms. Walker had some interactions with therapists.

Months before their separation in late 2023, Taraborelli described Ms. Walker as restless and unhappy. Following their separation, she moved to Dubai, and they ceased contact. Taraborelli provided her with approximately $500,000 in their divorce settlement.

Ms. Walker's social media in the months before her disappearance depicted her in glamorous settings in Dubai and during travels to France and the Academy Awards in Los Angeles in March 2025, where she may have been attempting to sell her jewelry, priced between $8,000 and $24,000.

A friend claims Ms. Walker did not have mental health struggles but that issues arose after her divorce when she invested $200,000 in a Dubai-based blockchain company and was unable to retrieve the funds. In early 2026, Ms. Walker reported an unsettling encounter in her Dubai hotel when an Australian man, after a brief interaction, later entered her room with two other men under false pretenses. Ms. Walker was reportedly terrified and screamed, alerting other guests. Security footage confirmed the man's identity.

In February, Ms. Walker traveled to Australia to reconnect with her teenage children. Shortly thereafter, she informed her friend that she saw the same Australian man on a Sydney beach, fueling concerns of being followed.

While Taraborelli acknowledges the possibility of BPD, he, along with Ms. Walker's friends and family, dismiss the notion of paranoia or delusions. The friend expressed a strong belief that Ms. Walker may have been a victim of human trafficking, citing her vulnerability as a recently divorced woman with financial resources and a lack of constant daily connections.

In early April, shortly before her disappearance, Ms. Walker was reportedly in tears and running out of money. Her father was covering her rent for her Sydney apartment. Despite her financial difficulties and a life described as being in shambles, friends and family do not believe she took her own life, pointing to her attire, packed bags, phone activity, and lack of any personal items washing ashore.

Ms. Walker's father has hired a private investigator. She is described as slim, 172cm tall, with brown eyes and long brown hair, and a small black butterfly tattoo on her right hand. NSW Police are urging anyone with information to contact Crime Stoppers.
