Everton has completed the signing of midfielder Christian Norgaard from Arsenal, securing the Danish international on a two-year contract. The transfer fee is reported to be £7 million.
Norgaard, 32, joined Arsenal last year in a £15 million deal from Brentford. During his time with the Gunners, he made 20 appearances across all competitions, with seven of those coming in the Premier League. Arsenal secured their first league title in 22 years last season, a feat Norgaard was part of.
Prior to his move to Arsenal, Norgaard spent six years at Brentford, where he became a key player, captaining the team and recording 196 appearances. His departure from Arsenal comes after he was notably left out of the squad for a recent friendly against Real Betis.
The acquisition of Norgaard is part of Everton manager David Moyes's strategy to bolster the squad with experienced players. This follows the departures of veteran players Seamus Coleman and Idrissa Gueye. The team also faces a midfield challenge with James Garner set to miss the start of the season due to groin surgery.
Everton has also been active in the transfer market this summer, having previously signed central midfielder Hayden Hackney from Middlesbrough for £16.5 million and winger Tyrique George from Chelsea for £18 million. George spent the latter half of the previous season on loan at Everton.
Everton is scheduled to begin their Premier League campaign against Crystal Palace on Saturday, August 22, at the Hill Dickinson Stadium.
