CNN anchor Erin Burnett recently pointed out what she described as former President Donald Trump's apparent unfamiliarity with soccer, following his controversial involvement in a decision by the sport's global governing body, FIFA. Trump had reportedly asked FIFA to review a red-card suspension for U.S. striker Folarin Balogun.

Burnett shared footage in which Trump admitted to not understanding the significance of a red card. "I didn’t know what that meant," Trump stated, adding, "I didn’t think it meant much." He went on to explain that he only grasped the impact of the suspension after learning it would prevent the player from participating in the subsequent game.

Trump's admission led Burnett to remark on his apparent lack of basic soccer knowledge. "I mean, can we just take a pause to be like, he actually didn’t even know what a red card was, right?" she questioned. Burnett further speculated that Trump, after being informed about the situation, decided to contact FIFA President Gianna Infantino, whom she identified as a "longtime Trump ally."
