Wyoming Republicans selected State Sen. Eric Barlow as their nominee for governor on Tuesday, positioning him to potentially succeed outgoing Republican Gov. Mark Gordon.
Barlow emerged victorious from a four-way primary race. Among the other candidates were State Superintendent Megan Degenfelder, who had received an endorsement from former President Donald Trump, and Marine Corps colonel Brent Bien. Professional bull rider Curt Blake also competed in the primary.
Gordon, who is serving his second term, opted against seeking a third term, leaving the governor's office open for the November general election. Barlow will face Democrat Kenneth Casner on Nov. 3.
Republicans hold a significant political advantage in Wyoming, with all statewide elected offices currently occupied by members of the party. The governor's race is one of several open-seat contests on Wyoming's ballot this year, alongside races for U.S. Senate, U.S. House, secretary of state, and superintendent of public instruction, indicating a substantial turnover in the state's political leadership.
