Emily Atack recently shared an update on her countryside home renovation, posting a photo of herself in a lycra unitard on Instagram.
At the same time, the 36-year-old actress and comedian discussed the societal pressures surrounding weight following childbirth. Atack, who moved from London to Bedfordshire with her partner Alistair Garner and their two-year-old son Barney, opted for a quieter lifestyle in a village. Their new home features high ceilings, wooden flooring, large windows, and exposed brick walls, with Atack showcasing a new burgundy staircase and ivy-patterned wallpaper.
Speaking on Jamie Laing's Great Company podcast in November 2024, Atack addressed questions about her post-pregnancy weight. She reflected on the liberating aspects of pregnancy and childbirth, noting how one's perspective on their body changes. Atack expressed exhaustion and surprise at the immediate expectation to return to the gym after giving birth, contrasting it with congratulations for becoming a mother.
"The last thing I want to do is go to the gym but the first thing you're expected to do is get back into shape," she said. "Where's the 'congratulations for being a mother'? Instead it's 'when are you going to get the baby weight off'." Atack added that she had actually gained weight since giving birth and was enjoying that phase.
Atack also recalled her experience during her breakout role as Charlotte Hinchcliffe in The Inbetweeners, where she faced public commentary about her weight. She stated that she had a healthy relationship with her weight but was unprepared for the attention. Atack mentioned a Facebook page dedicated to her character's weight and contrasted the negative comments with those who saw her as a positive representation of curvier women on television, noting she was a size eight at the time.
Reports have also emerged suggesting that producers of The Inbetweeners are seeking to sign Atack for a potential reboot. All four main cast members are reportedly set to return for a third movie for Netflix. This potential involvement comes after Atack was reportedly excluded from a reunion five years prior due to a past relationship with co-star James Buckley.
