Elon Musk used his X platform on Election Day to post a three-word message urging voters to “Vote red today!” However, by Wednesday morning, as Democratic gains became apparent in midterm races, the post had been deleted, according to multiple media outlets and X’s Grok chatbot.
Musk, who funneled $446 million into backing Republican candidates, particularly in Texas, left other posts and shares hyping Republicans and criticizing Democrats untouched. He did, however, acknowledge the Republican party’s losses early Wednesday, joking on X that he guessed his “election-interfering space lasers didn’t work this time.”
This action adds to Musk’s history of removing posts that could potentially reflect poorly on him. Previously, he deleted a post alleging Donald Trump was named in Jeffrey Epstein files, later stating his comments about the former president “went too far.” Tensions between the two have since eased, with Trump including Musk in a White House meeting on artificial intelligence and presenting him with a National Medal of Science.
