A Marine Corps veteran intervened and fatally shot a gunman who had killed a woman at a Citibank office in Tampa, Florida, on Wednesday. The assailant, identified as 35-year-old Jacob Pearson, reportedly drove from Orlando to the Citibank Center in Tampa after becoming enraged by a summons he received.

Hillsborough County Sheriff Chad Chronister stated that Pearson crashed his vehicle into a gate before shooting 41-year-old Leanne Selman. Pearson then returned to his car to retrieve a handgun and shot Selman again as she attempted to crawl away.

Pearson then entered the facility's cafeteria with the apparent intention of targeting additional victims. However, he was confronted and killed by Citibank security guard John Fraley, who had taken a tactical position in a men's restroom and fired five shots at the gunman. The sheriff's office indicated that Pearson's actions stemmed from a dispute over a $2,500 debt.
