Eight individuals arrested in connection with an alleged threat to an Islamic event have been released from custody as investigations continue. Counter-Terrorism Policing London stated that while information indicated a potential threat towards the event, extensive inquiries have not yet yielded evidence to support any charges.
Cdr Helen Flanagan, head of Counter-Terrorism Policing London, reassured the public, particularly the Muslim community, that inquiries are ongoing. She emphasized that further action would be taken if any potential offenses or threats to public safety are identified. Flanagan also thanked the event organizers and the local community for their support during the investigation.
The Islamic event, held at Shrubland Hall, began on Friday, July 10, and was scheduled to conclude on Sunday afternoon. However, police informed organizers of a "credible threat" in the early hours of the final day, prompting the event's shutdown at 7:00 AM BST.
Armed officers were deployed to the scene, and roads were closed to assist approximately 15,000 guests from around the world in evacuating the site. The investigation into the alleged extreme right-wing threat remains active.
