Actor Dylan Sprouse has described his early career in the entertainment industry as akin to "child labor," stating that he continues to navigate "mental hurdles" stemming from his experiences as a child actor. Sprouse, 34, shared his reflections on the "Wildmen" podcast, drawing parallels between his early acting days and historically exploitative child labor practices.

Sprouse, who rose to fame alongside his twin brother Cole on the Disney Channel series "The Suite Life of Zack & Cody" from 2005 to 2011, discussed the topic while conversing with guest Mark Indelicato, another actor who began his career at a young age on ABC's "Ugly Betty."

"Some kids used to work in coal mines and guard the mine cart door when they were 15, we just sang and danced," Sprouse told podcast co-host Brendan Columbus. "It's still child labor."

He elaborated that his self-esteem during his childhood acting career was contingent on his work schedule, a sentiment Indelicato echoed, noting that such experiences are difficult for many to comprehend. "We have to grapple with the reality of our lived experience, as does everyone, but I think what makes it a little bit different is that most people do not have our lived experience," Indelicato said.

Sprouse acknowledged that he was fortunate to have his twin brother by his side to navigate the challenges of their profession. He also expressed gratitude for connections with other former child stars, such as Indelicato, for support in adulthood. Before their Disney Channel success, the Sprouse brothers shared roles in projects like "Big Daddy" and "Grace Under Fire."

Both Dylan and Cole Sprouse have continued their acting careers, with Cole notably starring in "Riverdale." Dylan Sprouse is expecting his first child with his wife, model Barbara Palvin, whom he married in 2023. Previously, Sprouse stated on the "Tea Time" podcast that he would not prevent his own children from pursuing acting careers.
