Fraser Garden, 55, has been jailed for causing the death of 74-year-old John Bell, also known as Jack, who was killed when the stolen sports car crashed into his garden in Broughty Ferry, Scotland, in April. Garden, who has 90 previous convictions and had been disqualified from driving twice before, had consumed cocaine and was traveling at speeds approaching 150 mph, almost triple the 50 mph speed limit for the road.
The High Court in Edinburgh heard that Garden had stolen the Maserati. Judge Lord Braid told Garden that he had stolen the life of a man who should have been safe in his own home. Garden had previously pleaded guilty to causing Bell's death by dangerous driving. The crash resulted in significant damage to the red Maserati and the property.
