Dolly Parton's younger sister, Stella, has revealed that the country music legend was prepared to undergo experimental drug treatments during her secret battle with cancer, in the hope of advancing medical research for others.

Stella Parton shared in a tribute on Facebook that her sister, who passed away at age 80, expressed a desire to utilize any potential treatment advancements, regardless of her personal prognosis. "If there was no hope for her, she would still allow her medical team to try experimental drugs in the hope of helping others in the future," Stella wrote.

Parton was diagnosed with an undisclosed form of cancer, and her sister described her as "one of the most generous, thoughtful and kind people I’ve ever known." Stella added that Parton maintained her characteristic optimism and spirit, even in her final days.

A Life of Generosity

The siblings shared a close bond, maintaining a weekly phone call tradition for coffee and conversation before dawn. Stella recalled Dolly's farm-girl ethos, stating, "shoot Tedda we get more work done before the sun comes up than most folks do all day long!"

Parton's legacy extends beyond her music; she was a dedicated philanthropist. Her Imagination Library initiative has donated millions of books to children worldwide, fostering early literacy. In 2020, she contributed $1 million to Vanderbilt University Medical Center, supporting research that aided in the development of the Moderna COVID-19 vaccine.

Stella urged fans to honor Dolly Parton's memory by embodying her spirit of generosity, kindness, and dedication to uplifting others. "Dolly loved the world and everyone in it," Stella wrote. "She was right and she proved it everyday."

Parton, born in Pittman Center, Tennessee, in 1946, rose from humble beginnings to become a global icon. Her illustrious music career spanned six decades, with hit songs like "Jolene" and "9 to 5." She was one of 12 siblings raised in the Great Smoky Mountains, experiencing a childhood without modern amenities such as running water or electricity.

Stella's heartfelt tribute followed remarks from Dolly's niece, Rebecca Seaver, who also expressed the family's profound grief and love for the celebrated singer.
