Two dogs found unattended at Will Rogers State Beach in Los Angeles have ignited concerns of a potential abduction, according to the individual who discovered them. Paolo Moreno reported finding the two well-cared-for dogs on July 9, accompanied by items such as dog food, a swimsuit, a blanket, and a journal, all located within a women's restroom near Temescal Canyon Boulevard.
"My biggest concern is that something happened to the owner of the dogs," Moreno told FoxLA, adding that he believes an abduction at the beach is a possibility. He expressed his fear for the owner's safety, stating, "It’s scary. God forbid something happened to her. I have two adult daughters, and it’s really concerning."
Moreno contacted the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) out of concern for the owner. He noted that an officer acknowledged the circumstances—the dogs left with personal effects—did not align with a typical abandonment scenario. However, checks of missing persons reports for that day yielded no matches.
Attempting to locate the owner, Moreno took the dogs to nearby homeless encampments and to a veterinarian to check for microchips, but these efforts were unsuccessful. He has since consulted with various individuals and groups, including beach maintenance workers, homeless individuals, members of the van-life community, vendors, veterinarians, rescue organizations, and law enforcement.
Further complicating the situation, a Harbor/Beaches employee informed Moreno that the dogs belonged to a homeless woman who had been removed by police. However, when Moreno followed up with the LAPD, he was told that no woman had been arrested or forcibly removed from the location, indicating that the initial information he received was inaccurate.
Moreno hopes that by sharing the story, someone will recognize the dogs, allowing for their reunion with their owner and confirmation that no harm has come to her. The California Post has reached out to the police for additional information.
