The Los Angeles Dodgers have advanced to the National League Championship Series for the third consecutive season. Following their Game 4 victory over the Atlanta Braves in the NL Division Series, MLB on FOX analyst David Ortiz celebrated Dodgers outfielder Teoscar Hernandez.
Hernandez has been lauded for his ability to deliver impactful plays in crucial moments, even while on a team featuring prominent stars like Shohei Ohtani, Freddie Freeman, and Mookie Betts. "Every time you come out quietly and do some damage, brother. … You always come through when they really, really need you. You always prepare for those moments," Ortiz remarked.
Despite going hitless in Games 3 and 4 against the Braves, Hernandez hit a decisive two-run home run in Game 1 of the series. Speaking amidst his teammates' celebrations, Hernandez expressed his comfort with high-pressure situations. "I love [the moments]. Throughout my career, I'm not afraid to fail. I think that's the key, and I try to pass that to thing to the new guys – don't be afraid to fail," he said. "I just want to be that guy in that tough spot."
After a period of struggle earlier in the season, Hernandez saw a turnaround in September. During the final month, he batted .341 with a .965 OPS, recording four home runs and 18 RBIs.
Regarding adjustments at the plate, Hernandez told MLB on FOX analyst Alex Rodriguez that he modified his hitting stance. He experimented with multiple stances throughout the season, including one with a leg kick, another similar to Shohei Ohtani's grounded approach, and a third involving moving his front leg outward with a toe tap. These variations, he explained, helped him control his body, track the ball, and utilize the entire field.
The Dodgers are scheduled to begin Game 1 of the NLCS on Sunday, with coverage on FOX.
