Stavros Dimitriadis, a gastroenterologist, was suspended after admitting to showing a junior colleague an indecent image and a video of himself engaged in a sex act on his phone at University Hospital Coventry in July 2023. The victim reported that Dimitriadis appeared to be smirking and unconcerned during the incident.

A disciplinary panel found Dimitriadis's conduct to be sexually motivated and determined he was "testing the waters" for a potential sexual relationship with the victim. The panel stated his behavior "fell well outside the boundaries of acceptable workplace behaviour, regardless of cultural background or unfamiliarity with the UK."

This incident was part of a pattern of inappropriate behavior that occurred over approximately 18 months. On a separate occasion, about two months before the video incident, Dimitriadis allegedly put his arm around the colleague and stated he intended to have sex with her before returning to Greece or Germany. He also reportedly told the victim he had slept with every nurse at a previous hospital and expressed interest in visiting sex museums.

Dimitriadis, who worked at the hospital between January 2023 and September 2024, claimed he was new to the UK and felt socially isolated, which he cited as reasons for failing to maintain professional boundaries. He asserted that hugging was a normal greeting in Greece. He expressed shock that his actions caused the victim distress and fear, stating it was not his intention.

He informed the tribunal that he had completed courses on professional boundaries, sexual misconduct, bullying, harassment, and social media. However, he could not recall why he had shown the explicit material, only that he had begun scrolling through his phone while discussing unrelated topics. The General Medical Council's representative questioned whether Dimitriadis had fully explored the reasons for his behavior, noting an escalation from general comments to explicit actions.

The hospital trust stated that upon learning of the allegations, the individual was immediately suspended and the police were notified. Although Dimitriadis's fixed-term employment ended before the trust's investigation was complete, the trust continued to support the GMC's investigation. The trust affirmed its commitment to upholding high standards of behavior and ensuring a safe environment for colleagues.

Dimitriadis now practices at a private gastroenterology clinic in Thessaloniki, Greece. He earned his medical degree from the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki in 2008 and completed a master's at Queen Mary University of London in 2013, followed by specialist training in Germany before moving to the UK.
