The Democratic Socialists of America (DSA) have publicly defended Twitch streamer Hasan Piker, criticizing Democrats and Republicans alike for condemning his rhetoric and for advancing a House resolution aimed at denouncing socialism. The DSA's official X account stated that the "establishment: Ds, Rs + media" have shifted focus from DSA's political successes to "personal attacks, racist dog whistles, symbolic House resolutions, and an obsession with a Twitch streamer."

The organization further emphasized its support for Piker by referring to him as "our Twitch streamer." This backing comes as Piker has become a significant figure in internal party debates, with some Democrats urging their colleagues to distance themselves from the popular online content creator.

Several prominent Democrats have publicly rejected Piker's recent remarks. Senator Jon Ossoff, D-Ga., stated through a spokesperson that he "unreservedly rejects reckless and dangerous rhetoric suggesting that policy advocacy invites violence against the Jewish community or any community." Ossoff's comments followed Piker's remarks during a Twitch stream where he suggested that if Jewish people in America continue to link themselves to Israel, "eventually someone’s going to come around and take action... Not against the state of Israel, mind you, but against American Jews."

Representative Jared Moskowitz, D-Fla., also a Jewish Democrat, expressed his view that the Democratic Party's tent may not be large enough to accommodate both him and Piker. Moskowitz, along with Representatives Hillary Scholten (D-Mich.), Josh Gottheimer (D-N.J.), and Tom Suozzi (D-N.Y.), proposed an amendment to a Republican-backed resolution condemning socialism. Their amendment sought to remove election-related provisions, such as a call to pass the SAVE America Act, while retaining language denouncing socialism as "incompatible with American values and the United States Constitution."

The proposed Democratic amendment did not receive a vote and will not be part of the resolution. The original GOP resolution, which was advanced by the House Rules Committee, includes historical examples of communism's failures and asserts that socialist ideology inevitably leads to totalitarian rule.

The controversy highlights internal tensions within the Democratic Party as it navigates the influence of progressive voices and prepares for future elections.
