Two Delta Air Lines flights experienced a close call at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport late Monday night, prompting an investigation by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).

The incident occurred around 11 p.m. when Delta Flight 2472 was departing from the airport and crossed paths with Delta Flight 1568, which was executing a pilot-initiated go-around. The FAA stated that Flight 1568 initiated the go-around because another aircraft was slow to clear the same runway.

During the maneuver, onboard anti-collision warning systems sounded in the cockpit, according to air traffic control audio. One pilot was heard exclaiming, "My goodness," as the two jets came into proximity.

Delta Air Lines confirmed the events, stating that the crew of Flight 1568 performed a go-around due to potential traffic on the runway. The airline emphasized that the crew acted in accordance with established procedures to maintain separation from other air traffic and that the flight landed safely with passengers deplaning normally. Delta also stated that its crews undergo extensive training for such uncommon scenarios.

The FAA has confirmed that the incident is under investigation, and Delta has pledged full cooperation with authorities.
