Democrat Deb Haaland has won the election for governor of New Mexico, defeating Republican Greggory D. Hull. Haaland, a former U.S. interior secretary and member of Congress, is a member of the Laguna Pueblo.

Her victory makes her the first female Native American governor in any U.S. state. Hull previously served three terms as the mayor of a major New Mexico city. The outgoing governor, Democrat Michelle Lujan Grisham, is term-limited.
