Vanessa O'Bryan, a prosecutor facing accusations of sexual relationships with inmates, has been hit with 12 new charges. Investigators allege that O'Bryan exchanged sensitive information with underworld figures in a deal involving money for secret files.
O'Bryan, who was previously suspended without pay, is now facing a dramatic increase in the legal scrutiny against her. The new charges suggest a more complex scheme than initially alleged, involving the exchange of confidential information for financial gain.
Details emerging from the investigation indicate that O'Bryan may have been communicating with organized crime figures, including one identified by the code name '50cent.' This figure is reportedly an organized crime figure named Sargon Namat. The communication allegedly occurred via an encrypted messaging application. O'Bryan is also accused of having had a sexualized liaison with Joshua Baines, a convicted gangland murderer.
Investigators began looking into O'Bryan after she reported abusive texts she received about Terry Sampson, a repeat offender and an inmate with whom she was allegedly having an affair. This self-reporting reportedly brought her under suspicion.
O'Bryan is currently on bail under strict conditions, which prohibit her from using or possessing any encrypted devices or communicating through encrypted applications. Her suspension from her role as a prosecutor means she is currently not being paid.
