Director David Ayer, known for films such as "Suicide Squad," "Fury," and "End of Watch," has listed his Silver Lake home in Los Angeles for $2.99 million. The 1927 Spanish villa has been extensively customized by Ayer, who described the property as a "creative outlet" and a "slow curation of time and wood, and brick and metal."

The home's distinctive features include driveway bricks salvaged from the Indianapolis Motor Speedway and a front door sourced from an ancient Afghan temple, with wood estimated to be 800 years old. Stained glass windows were crafted from historic European building elements, including pieces from churches in Poland and a German cathedral. "The level of intention is incredibly rare. You feel it the moment you walk through the gate," said Juliette Hohnen, one of the listing agents.

Ayer purchased the three-bedroom, two-bath property in 2014 for $1.15 million. The residence is situated in Silver Lake, an area known for its creative community. Elements designed to inspire Ayer include stained glass that casts "rainbows of light" and terracotta lions that guard the garden.

Architectural Details and Customization

The interior showcases a blend of historic and custom design. The dining room floor is made of pine originally from the house, which was removed, re-milled, and reinstalled diagonally. The property also features rare vintage Spanish tiles, including patterns from a California racetrack and black tiles from the 1930s, alongside Moroccan tiles and hand-painted work. Custom and vintage wrought-iron light fixtures and a gate from a Beverly Hills estate are also incorporated.

Brokers have noted the home's meticulous attention to detail, with surprises found throughout. The property includes a detached studio with a kitchen and bathroom, which opens onto a covered patio, and a carved wooden cabana designed for yoga and meditation. The main house features an open chef's kitchen with a vintage stove and a farmer's sink, leading to an outdoor dining patio.

The layout includes a bedroom and bath on the main floor, with a den, family room, office, and two additional bedrooms located upstairs. The property also has a finished garage that serves as a recreational space.

"David approached this home the way he approaches a film — with an obsessive attention to provenance and detail," Hohnen stated. Her colleague on the listing, Erica DeBear of the Rise Group at Real Brokerage, added that Silver Lake attracts buyers seeking unique properties.

A meditative garden

Ayer expressed a hope that the home would "inspire more art."
