Dannon's decision to discontinue its long-standing coffee-flavored yogurt has ignited a fervent response from devoted fans, prompting the creation of a petition and widespread expressions of disappointment across social media platforms.

The coffee yogurt, often referred to as "DCY" by enthusiasts, was a favorite for decades, offering a blend of coffee flavor and creamy yogurt. According to The Wall Street Journal, a 5.3-ounce cup contained approximately 32 milligrams of caffeine, comparable to about one-third of an 8-ounce cup of coffee, alongside 11 grams of added sugar. For some, the yogurt was more than just a snack; it was a daily ritual. "It's what I got out of bed for," one loyal consumer told the publication, having consumed the yogurt for 40 years.

Fans have expressed their dismay online, with many searching for alternatives and lamenting the loss of the specific texture and taste that differentiated DCY from other coffee-flavored yogurts. A Change.org petition highlights the product's unique appeal, stating, "Coffee yogurt provided a delightful blend of rich coffee flavor and creamy yogurt, a perfect option for those seeking a pick-me-up in a healthy and satisfying snack." The petition further notes that its discontinuation has removed a "valuable and cherished option for yogurt lovers everywhere."

Social media forums and dedicated Facebook pages have become hubs for fans sharing their grief and attempting to recreate the flavor at home. Some have found success with other products, such as Icelandic Provisions Cold Brew Coffee Skyr, with one user noting that DCY eventually seemed "too sweet and thin by comparison."

Despite the fan revolt, the future of Dannon's coffee yogurt may not be entirely bleak. Rafael Acevedo, president of Dannon's yogurt division, indicated to The Wall Street Journal that the product could return in a different iteration. "Dannon coffee yogurt will come back in ways that reflect the taste preferences, flavor profile and nutritional benefits many consumers seek in the yogurt aisle today," Acevedo stated. Dannon has also acknowledged the outpouring of passion on social media, with a post on Instagram asking users to DM for future updates.
