A 29-year-old cyclist was killed in Brooklyn on Tuesday morning when a pick-up truck driver struck her from behind, authorities said. The driver then fled the scene, leaving the cyclist with fatal injuries.
The victim, identified as Paulina Tec Choc, was stopped at the intersection of Jamaica Avenue and Cypress Hills Street around 5:50 a.m. when a 2006 Ford F-250 pickup truck collided with her e-bike. The impact threw Tec Choc from her bicycle, and she was subsequently run over by the truck.
Emergency medical services transported Tec Choc to Brookdale University Hospital Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead due to severe head and body trauma. The motorist involved in the collision fled the scene immediately after the incident and has not yet been apprehended.
The New York Police Department's Highway District's Collision Investigation Squad is continuing to investigate the incident.
