Former New York Governor Andrew Cuomo stated over the weekend that social media platforms and socialist ideologies are contributing to young Jewish people losing touch with their history and the lessons of the Holocaust. Speaking at a Seder service at the Hampton Synagogue in West Hampton Beach, Cuomo expressed alarm over the rise in antisemitism and a perceived lack of public outrage.
"We have to start by reeducating our young people, especially our young Jewish people," Cuomo told attendees. He suggested that young people "gotten caught up in this new socialism" and that their opposition to Israeli policy does not justify antisemitism or violence against American Jews.
Cuomo specifically cited platforms like Instagram and Twitter, stating that if events like the Holocaust are not shared on these sites, younger generations may not perceive them as having happened. "They don’t understand the Holocaust. Why? Because it’s not on Twitter. It’s not on Instagram, so it never happened. But it happened. It’s real. Our young people aren’t learning that lesson," he said. He believes this disconnect is detrimental to them.
In addition to his remarks on antisemitism, the column also touched upon other notable items. Olivia Nuzzi, a former correspondent, was featured in a clothing brand's campaign. The ad copy highlighted her role as a "Washington Correspondent" and directed readers to her past work at New York Magazine and her presence on Twitter, platforms she has since departed.
Separately, the article noted an issue at the US Open regarding luxury suites. While the Rolex suite reportedly has a private toilet, guests of other brands faced using public restrooms due to renovations that removed bathrooms from suites. A US Open spokesperson attributed the change to industry standards, while sources indicated dissatisfaction among other brands.
Lastly, former "The View" co-host Michelle Collins successfully performed two standup shows at Joe's Pub and is scheduled to perform in Los Angeles. She reportedly expressed affection for her former "The View" co-hosts, singling out Joy Behar as a favorite.
