Cruz Beckham experienced significant nerves ahead of his performance at the Lollapalooza Festival in Chicago on Saturday, revealing he was "nearly crying" when he spoke to his parents.
Beckham, 21, who is currently on tour in North America with his band The Breakers, shared a behind-the-scenes video on Instagram detailing his anxiety before the festival set. He expressed concern that the audience was not solely there to see his band. "People are there to see other things as well. So like, this is just going to be a side quest to them. So it's got to be really, really good," he stated in the video.
He also conveyed his gratitude for the opportunity and his desire to showcase his abilities. "I feel like I understand the privilege that I've been given and I just want to give the best show and be able to show people who I really am and show people what I can do," Beckham said.
During his call with his parents, David and Victoria Beckham, who were on holiday in the South of France, Cruz explained how they could stream the performance. "I was on the phone to my mum and dad just now, and I was telling them how they can stream it and then I almost started crying over the comfort of being at home playing with the boys," he recounted.
His girlfriend, Jackie Apostel, 30, was present backstage, offering support. While David and Victoria Beckham were vacationing, his elder brother Brooklyn, 27, and his wife Nicola Peltz were also in the South of France. Sources indicate David and Victoria narrowly missed encountering Brooklyn and Nicola in St. Tropez.
Despite his parents' absence from the crowd, Beckham performed, playing guitar and singing his band's songs. The band recently completed a tour across the UK. His new single, "Seeing Red," reportedly alludes to family disputes, though Beckham described it as a humorous take on competitive moments.
"Seeing red is a comedic take on a totally unserious moment of frustration, in this case in sports," he explained. "Everyone's competitive nature likes to take over now and then, but it's all fun and games. Seeing red is a nod to that exact turning point."
Beckham is currently touring the U.S. with The Breakers and recently released "Wear & Tear," the latest track from his upcoming debut EP.
