A crew member aboard the Regal Princess cruise ship died after going overboard off the coast of Cancún, according to Princess Cruises. The worker was discovered deceased on Monday following an extensive search launched by authorities.
It remains unclear how the crew member ended up in the water from the 19-deck ship, which had departed from Fort Lauderdale, Florida, the previous Saturday. The cruise line has not released the individual's name, age, or job title.
"Our heartfelt condolences go out to the crew's family and friends during this difficult time," a spokesperson for Princess Cruises stated. "Grief support services are being offered to guests and crew members affected by this event."
Princess Cruises expressed gratitude to local maritime authorities and crew from the Carnival Jubilee for their assistance in the search and rescue efforts. The Regal Princess resumed its voyage after the discovery and was scheduled to make its next stop in Belize on Tuesday, with the seven-day trip expected to conclude back in Fort Lauderdale on Saturday.
