Craig Melvin assured "Today" show viewers on Friday that he is "safe and sound" following a security incident the previous day where an intruder entered an unauthorized area of Studio 1A.

"I want to take a quick moment to address an incident that happened yesterday," Melvin said on air. "You may have heard that unfortunately an intruder made his way into an unauthorized area here at Studio 1A."

Melvin, 47, stated that the individual was "apprehended quickly" and "placed under arrest." He added that NBC is "cooperating fully with the NYPD as they investigate the matter" and expressed relief that "everyone is safe."

The man who confronted Melvin in a stairway at NBC's New York City headquarters was identified as Andrew Truelove, 41. Reports indicate Truelove was seeking out weatherman Al Roker. Truelove was taken into custody on Thursday, and a security guard was reportedly fired in connection with the breach.

Melvin had initially addressed the incident via Instagram, posting, "Hey everyone. I’ve heard from so many of you over the last few hours. I’m doing just fine. Thanks for reaching out. I’m looking forward to seeing you tomorrow morning on @todayshow."
