Courteney Cox has spoken about the experience of directing her daughter, Coco Arquette, in the new film "Evil Genius." Cox, 62, shares Coco, 22, with her ex-husband David Arquette, 55, who also appears in the movie. The true crime-dark comedy recently premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival.

Cox told E! News that she did not need to adopt an overprotective approach, or a "mama bear" role, while working with her daughter on the project. "She holds her own. I don’t need to be protective of her," Cox explained. She added that Coco is "just a little force, but she’s an incredible actor," and that "Everybody loved her" on set.

Earlier this year, Cox celebrated Coco's birthday with a heartfelt social media tribute. She shared photos and a caption calling her daughter a "wise soul" and her "life teacher." David Arquette also posted birthday wishes for Coco, who commented on his posts expressing her love.

In October 2024, Cox reflected on the adjustment period when Coco first went to college. While initially unconcerned about her daughter leaving for school, Cox admitted the second year was more difficult for her. Cox and Arquette, who were married in 1999 and divorced in 2013, have maintained an amicable relationship.

"Evil Genius" stars Patricia Arquette and David Harbour as a couple involved in a fatal heist. The film, adapted from a 2018 Netflix docuseries, chronicles the 2003 "pizza bomber" robbery. Courteney Cox's ex-husband and Christine Taylor are cast as bank employees in the film, which also features Michael Chernus, Garret Dillahunt, Danielle Macdonald, and Owen Teague.
