A couple has reportedly fled a waterfront restaurant in Penarth, South Wales, after consuming a substantial meal and leaving without paying a £115 bill. The incident occurred at The Custom House on Monday.

The pair are alleged to have dined on a £52 Dover sole, a two-course set menu, calamari, and eight Cokes before departing. CCTV footage shows them arriving in a Volvo with the private registration 'MD11 RAN'.

Following their departure, the restaurant posted on Facebook appealing for the customers to return and settle their outstanding bill, noting that they had the vehicle registration on record.

Social media users have commented on the incident, with some pointing out the ironic nature of the car's registration plate, 'MD11 RAN'.

The owner of The Custom House, Tanny Martinez, described the incident as "hugely disappointing" and highlighted the challenging economic climate facing the hospitality industry.

This incident follows a series of similar reports across the UK. In recent months, other restaurants have reported customers leaving without paying after expensive meals, including a group who allegedly fled a Worcester restaurant with a £400 bill and a couple in Essex who left without paying a £231.30 bill after consuming 14 Baby Guinness shots.
