Country music singer Ruston Kelly has publicly shared his renewed commitment to sobriety following a relapse that occurred after a golf cart accident in June. Kelly, 37, stated he was three days sober as of Wednesday, detailing the challenges he faced after the incident.

Kelly explained that the accident resulted in a broken arm and a prescription for pain medication, including Percocet. He described how the prescription quickly became insufficient for his pain, leading him to take more than prescribed and eventually relapse into substance abuse. "I was chewing them in the pharmacy before I walked out the door," Kelly wrote in a social media post. "I was hiding how many at a time I was taking. I was complaining to the dr it wasn’t enough."

This relapse awakened a dependency that Kelly had not felt in a long time. He admitted to a fentanyl dependency after the accident. Previously, Kelly had focused on avoiding amphetamines, believing he was not addicted to other substances like alcohol or THC. However, the experience following his injury led him to a realization.

"On July 26 I decided to end any chance of ruining anything good," Kelly stated. "For my soul my wife my family my art and career and my people. I admitted that whether I like it or not I will forever have a substance abuse disease."

Kelly shared an image of a Narcotics Anonymous token, signifying his dedication to recovery. He has committed to abstaining from all drugs and substances, including alcohol and THC, and is also working on quitting nicotine. He expressed his intention to remain sober, one day at a time.
