NHL goaltender Connor Hellebuyck has publicly confirmed his request to be traded from the Winnipeg Jets as training camp approaches. The 33-year-old netminder, a native of Commerce, Michigan, has spent his entire professional career with the Jets since debuting in the 2015-16 season.

Hellebuyck stated in a release shared by his agent that he has tried to handle the situation "quietly and respectfully" while allowing the organization time to explore options. "With training camp approaching, I felt it was important to publicly confirm my request," he said. "My position has not changed. I believe moving on is the best path forward for me and my family."

This confirmation follows comments from Winnipeg Jets Executive Vice President and General Manager Kevin Cheveldayoff, who indicated on Wednesday that the team was considering offers for Hellebuyck. "Certainly, as an organization we're going to listen," Cheveldayoff said, according to NHL.com. "Everyone saw (Hellebuyck’s) press conference at the end of the year. He was passionate. Certainly, in our exit meetings we had some frank conversations as well, but again, what happens in those meetings certainly stays private."

Cheveldayoff later released a statement after Hellebuyck’s confirmation, acknowledging the goalie's desire for a change. "Connor has been open with us about his desire for a change," the statement read. "He has been an important part of the Winnipeg Jets organization for many years, and we have tremendous respect for what he has accomplished here. While we will continue to work through the situation in a thoughtful manner, there is no update at this time."

Hellebuyck has been a cornerstone for the Jets, earning the Vezina Trophy as the league's top goaltender three times. His performance was notably highlighted during the 2025 Olympics in Milan, where his 41-save performance in the gold medal game against Canada was instrumental in the U.S. men's team securing gold for the first time since 1980.
