Indianapolis Colts wide receiver Keenan Allen was arrested on drunken driving charges early Sunday morning, the same day he was released from the Marion County Jail. The arrest occurred less than 24 hours after Allen made his preseason debut with the team.
Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department officers encountered Allen shortly after 1 a.m. in downtown Indianapolis when they observed a vehicle parked in a no-parking zone. According to police, officers noticed signs of intoxication while speaking with Allen and subsequently placed him under arrest. The 34-year-old faces preliminary misdemeanor charges of operating a vehicle while intoxicated and operating a vehicle while intoxicated causing endangerment. His first court date is scheduled for Sept. 16.
The Colts issued a statement acknowledging the incident. "We are aware of the incident involving Keenan Allen last night," the team said. "We are in the process of gathering more information and have no further comment at this time."
Allen signed a one-year contract with the Colts on Aug. 19, with a base value of $3.32 million that could reach up to $8.32 million through incentives. He did not participate in the Colts' first two preseason games after joining the team late in training camp. Allen caught his only target for 24 yards during Indianapolis's opening possession in his preseason debut before exiting the game. The Colts lost their final preseason game to the Lions 25-16 and are set to begin their regular season against the Ravens on Sept. 13.
Allen spent the 2025 season with the Los Angeles Chargers, where he recorded 81 receptions for 777 yards and four touchdowns in 17 games. He is a six-time Pro Bowler with 1,055 career receptions for 12,051 yards and 70 touchdowns, ranking 13th in NFL history in receptions.
