A Colorado mother reportedly had her fifth-grade son handcuffed by a police officer on the first day of school after he refused to take a back-to-school photograph. The incident occurred on August 10, 2026, in Keenesburg, Colorado, when Amanda Stolz was driving her son, Colton, to school.
According to a social media post by Stolz, she encountered Officer Jack Ross, who then handcuffed the boy. Stolz stated that the officer informed her son that refusing a mother's request for a first-day-of-school picture was against the law. Stolz shared images of the event on Facebook, showing her son being placed in handcuffs and escorted to a police car. In one image, the boy appears to be laughing.
Stolz expressed her appreciation for Officer Ross taking the situation seriously, telling CBS Colorado, "It was awesome that Officer Jack took it serious." She added, "We were like, ‘Well, I guess we have you back-to-school pictures now, don’t we?'" and concluded with "Here’s to 5th grade buddy!" on her social media post.
