Colman Domingo's polished appearance at the Emmy Awards was the result of a meticulous grooming process orchestrated by his longtime groomer, Jamie Richmond. Richmond shared the seven-step routine designed to ensure Domingo's skin and facial hair remained flawless from the red carpet to the after-parties.
Richmond's primary goal for Domingo's preparation was "healthy, hydrated skin, impeccable facial hair and a glow that would hold up from the first red-carpet photo to the last party of the night." The process began with the application of Mimi Luzon's Recharge Serum, a product formulated with glycerin, sodium hyaluronate, and apple fruit cell culture extract to plump and smooth the skin. Richmond emphasized that the aim is always "refinement, never transformation - every detail should feel deliberate, while Colman still looks completely like Colman."
Skin Preparation and Facial Hair
Following the serum, Richmond utilized the Therabody TheraFace Depuffing Wand, employing hot and cold treatments to reduce any puffiness and enhance radiance. This was followed by Mimi Luzon's Hyaluronic Super Cream, which locks in hydration with a blend of hyaluronic acid, squalane, jojoba oil, and apricot kernel oil. Richmond noted that this step creates a smooth canvas for the subsequent makeup application.
Attention was then turned to Domingo's facial hair. Richmond used a Philips Norelco OneBlade to refine the beard, emphasizing its role as part of the "architecture of the face." She stated, "the cheek line, neckline, sideburns and overall shape can completely change how polished someone looks," especially under the scrutiny of HD cameras.
Complexion Perfecting
For the complexion, Richmond applied Valentino Beauty's V-Lighter Face Base Primer to further prep the skin. This was followed by Very Valentino 24-Hour Wear Liquid Foundation. Richmond customizes the foundation by using a combination of shades – Deep Ambra 3, Deep Neutra 2, and Deep Rosa 3 – to complement Domingo's natural skin tone rather than masking it.
The final step involved Very Valentino Concealer, applied strategically to brighten and perfect specific areas. Richmond finished the look with a light dusting of powder on the under-eye and T-zone to control shine while maintaining a healthy glow. This comprehensive approach ensures a camera-ready appearance that still looks natural.
