Coleen Rooney believes many couples end their relationships too quickly and stated that she and her husband, Wayne Rooney, have worked through their marital issues "behind closed doors." The couple is set to reveal details of their life with their four sons in a new 10-part Disney+ series, "The Real Rooneys."
"The main thing is love has always been there," Coleen told OK! magazine. "People are too quick to give up on working at things, too vocal in the moment and saying 'right that's enough'. What we've done is actually talked and tried to work things out."
She added, "We still love each other, we've still got a connection, we've still got feelings. We've done well, I think. And the biggest thing we've done well is actually dealing with our relationship with the world looking in on us."
Wayne Rooney acknowledged that future challenges are inevitable in any marriage but emphasized their commitment to their life together. "Are we going to have tough moments in the future? Of course, every married couple has that. But I think most importantly when you sit down and look back, we've had great moments and we've still got so much of our life to live together with our children,"
Wayne has previously spoken candidly about his past infidelity, including visits to brothels as a teenager and a reported relationship with escort Jennifer Thompson during Coleen's first pregnancy. Another scandal involved his arrest for drink-driving in 2017. The documentary will explore these aspects of their lives.
The series, which reportedly secured a £10 million deal with Disney+, will offer an intimate look inside their Cheshire mansion. It follows Wayne as he transitions from football management to family life and Coleen as she builds on her television appearances. Their sons—Kai, 16, Klay, 13, Kit, 10, and Cass, eight—also feature in the show.
A synopsis describes the series as exploring "the highs and lows of married life, raising four lively boys, and supporting eldest son Kai as he pursues his own footballing dream." It promises "surprising personal revelations, career-defining moments, lavish celebrations and unforgettable family holidays."
The project generated significant interest, with Disney+ and Amazon reportedly engaged in a bidding war. The show's success is being compared to other high-profile celebrity documentaries, such as "The Beckhams."
The documentary's release date is set for September 24. The production reportedly involved months of negotiation, with Coleen Rooney expected to receive a substantial portion of the £10 million fee. The documentary is produced by Lorton Entertainment, which also produced Coleen Rooney: The Real Wagatha Story.
Meanwhile, Rebekah Vardy, Coleen's opponent in the "Wagatha Christie" libel trial, is reportedly filming a pilot for her own reality show, though industry sources have expressed less enthusiasm about its prospects.
