Chelsea footballer Cole Palmer is spending time in Marbella, Spain, with his girlfriend Olivia Holder following his omission from England's World Cup squad. The midfielder, 24, was seen relaxing at a beach club, enjoying drinks and playing cards, as he took a break after missing out on selection for the national team.
Palmer's absence from the squad, which recently defeated Mexico 3-2, came as a surprise to some fans, particularly after his impactful performance in the Euro 2024 final where he scored as a substitute. He had experienced a strong debut season with Chelsea following his 2023 transfer from Manchester City, scoring 22 goals and providing 11 assists in 33 Premier League appearances. The subsequent 2024-25 season also saw him score 15 goals and provide nine assists in the Premier League.
However, Palmer's form dipped in the most recent campaign, attributed partly to groin and hamstring injuries. He made 26 Premier League appearances, scoring 10 goals and assisting one, as Chelsea finished 10th in the league.
Despite the disappointment of not making the World Cup squad, Palmer stated in an interview with i-D that he is not dwelling on the decision. He expressed his intention to use the summer for rest and recovery. "I'm going to relax this summer, rest for the first time in three or four years, before getting back to what I love," he said. Regarding watching the tournament, he added, "If I'm not doing anything, then I'll watch the matches, yeah."
Palmer has also been observed holidaying at other locations, including Ibiza, prior to his trip to Marbella. He previously stated that talking to friends outside of football helps him stay grounded. He and Holder were pictured together in Spain, embracing in a swimming pool and enjoying the sunny weather.
