Former New York Yankees outfielder Clint Frazier has resurfaced details of a mandatory team meeting he attended in 2020 that was hosted by Emmanuel Acho. Frazier's remarks came in response to Acho's recent comments on the "Speakeasy" podcast, where the former NFL player suggested the WNBA would be better without Caitlin Clark.
Frazier, who played for the Yankees from 2017 to 2021, posted on X that the team was required to attend the meeting with Acho. "Not surprising at all …. in 2020 our entire Yankees team was told we had a mandatory meeting we had to attend — that meeting was hosted by him," Frazier wrote. "Should’ve heard what he had to say to our team."
The post gained significant traction online, with many users, including former NFL quarterback Robert Griffin III, inquiring about the specifics of the meeting. Frazier confirmed to one user that the meeting occurred via Zoom. "Buddy. we had a meeting 🤣🤣🤣 it wasn’t a presentation hahaha — were you there for the meeting ?" he replied when pressed for details.
Acho's recent commentary that sparked Frazier's recollection centered on Clark's impact on the WNBA. "The WNBA would be better without Caitlin Clark, because she is a bigger distraction than she is an additive," Acho stated on the podcast. "Caitlin got the necessary eyes there, but now that the eyes are there, we don’t necessarily need her anymore."
Clark and the WNBA have recently been the subject of increased media attention, including an incident where Phoenix Mercury forward Alyssa Thomas hit Clark during a game. While Thomas received a suspension, the play was not called a foul at the time, leading to discussions about player safety and how Clark is officiated. Indiana Fever coach Stephanie White described the incident as "egregious" and "absolutely unacceptable."
The Yankees organization has not publicly commented on Frazier's description of the 2020 meeting. In 2020, the Yankees finished the regular season with a 33-27 record, placing second in the American League East.
