Clint Eastwood once asserted his authority on the set of "A Perfect World" by sending Kevin Costner back to his trailer for an extended period, according to Clint Eastwood's son, Scott Eastwood. The incident, which occurred in 1993 during the filming of the crime thriller that Eastwood directed, was recounted by Scott on a recent episode of the "Armchair Expert" podcast.
Scott Eastwood described the situation as an example of his father maintaining a calm demeanor while asserting control. He explained that Kevin Costner, who was experiencing a "rise to fame" at the time and may have had a "big ego," was reportedly refusing to leave his trailer. Clint Eastwood, known for his preference to remain on set rather than use trailers, did not raise his voice but instead instructed the crew to send Costner home for the day.
"Send him home then," Clint Eastwood reportedly said when informed that Costner was needed for the scene. Scott Eastwood recounted that when the crew informed Costner he would be sent home despite being scheduled to film, the actor was surprised. The following day, Costner was reportedly back on set and ready to work.
Scott Eastwood shared the anecdote as a demonstration of his father's leadership style. He also touched upon his own on-set experiences, including a past altercation with Shia LaBeouf during the filming of "Fury," and alluded to instances where other actors may have acted with a sense of entitlement due to their fame.
