A decade-old photograph from a family holiday in Cyprus is reportedly the reason behind the fallout between former BBC Radio 1 collaborators Chris Moyles and Dave Vitty, known as Comedy Dave. The image, taken in August 2011 outside a bar in Paphos, showed Moyles on holiday with Jayne Sharp, who was then Vitty's estranged wife.

Sources close to the situation claim Vitty felt "utterly betrayed" by the incident, which "permanently ended" his 15-year friendship with Moyles. The pair, who had a popular on-air partnership, reportedly sat in silence in the studio in the months following the photograph's emergence, with music playing to fill the void.

Vitty and Sharp had announced their divorce five months prior to the Cyprus trip. Sharp was without Vitty on the holiday, which also included Moyles's brother and sister-in-law. While there is no suggestion of a romantic relationship between Moyles and Sharp, Vitty's relationship with both parties was reportedly severed.

Dave Vitty and Chris Moyles met in 1997 and had so much on-air chemistry that they became one of radio's longest-running duos, famed for their pub jokes and stunts

Moyles and Vitty met in 1997, with Vitty initially working as a technical operative before joining Moyles's show. Their on-air chemistry led to a successful partnership, attracting an audience of 7.9 million weekly listeners. The nickname "Comedy Dave" was sarcastically given to Vitty by comedian Lee Hurst.

The fallout from the Cyprus holiday reportedly contributed to Moyles's departure from Radio 1. Sources indicated that BBC bosses were concerned about the increasingly "fiery and toxic" relationship between the two former friends. This led to Nick Grimshaw being brought in to replace Moyles a year earlier than originally planned. Moyles himself later commented on his departure, attributing it to being perceived as "too old" for the station.

Moyles moved to Radio X in 2015, and Vitty did not join him. Moyles has since partnered with artist-manager Tiffany Austin, while Vitty has focused on a behind-the-scenes role as a producer. When asked about his relationship with Vitty in a 2016 interview, Moyles declined to comment, stating the matter was "no one's business, but everyone's business."
