Singer Chris Brown was handed an eight-month suspended sentence on Monday after pleading guilty to affray, a charge stemming from a 2023 incident in London.
Judge Tony Baumgartner delivered the sentence at Southwark Crown Court, stipulating that it would be suspended for 12 months. Brown, 37, had entered his guilty plea in July.
The Metropolitan Police stated in May that the charge related to an incident at a London venue on February 19, 2023. Prosecutors alleged that Brown attacked a victim with a glass bottle, striking them on the head twice.
"This kind of violence is entirely unacceptable, and the Crown Prosecution Service will work tirelessly -- with the police and partners across the criminal justice system -- to pursue cases like this, and prove that no one is above the law," said Claire Campbell, a senior crown prosecutor, in a statement at the time.
Omololu Akinlolu, 40, identified as Brown's vocal coach, also pleaded guilty to affray in July. Akinlolu received a four-month suspended sentence, also to be suspended for 12 months.
Under UK law, affray is defined as using or threatening unlawful violence towards another person in a manner that would cause a reasonable person present to fear for their safety.
