Singer Chris Brown pleaded guilty to assaulting a music producer in a London nightclub and performed a show in Nashville on the same Saturday. The 37-year-old artist had been facing trial for the 2023 incident at the Tape private members' club in Mayfair, where he allegedly struck a former friend twice over the head.

As part of the plea agreement, a charge of assault occasioning actual bodily harm against Abraham Diaw was dropped, along with charges of possessing an offensive weapon and attempting to cause grievous bodily harm. Brown's vocal coach, Omololu Akinlolu, also pleaded guilty to affray. Both are scheduled for sentencing on October 26.

Following the court hearing, Brown performed in Nashville alongside Usher. Reports described the show as "raunchy," featuring him with a woman handcuffed to a pole.

During a court appearance, a charge of affray was added to the indictment. The charge stated that Brown and Akinlolu "used or threatened unlawful violence towards another and their conduct taken together was such as would cause a person of reasonable firmness present at the scene to fear for his personal safety."

Detective Constable Zara Ripamonti of the Metropolitan Police Service called the assault "disgraceful" and "unprovoked," emphasizing that such violence has no place in London. Senior Crown Prosecutor Claire Campbell of the Crown Prosecution Service added that the incident involved the use of a glass bottle as a weapon and stated that the CPS works to ensure no one is above the law.

Judge Tony Baumgartner set bail conditions allowing Brown to leave the UK but requiring his return on October 25, the day before his sentencing. Earlier court appearances had seen Brown ordered to pay a £5 million security fee as part of his bail, which also permitted him to tour internationally under the condition of surrendering his passport upon arrival in each country.

This legal development follows a 2009 incident in Los Angeles where Brown admitted to a felony assault charge related to an altercation prior to the Grammy Awards. At that time, he assaulted his then-girlfriend, pop star Rihanna.
