A child remains in stable condition following a violent incident at a Northern Ireland residence that resulted in the death of a 61-year-old man. Police are investigating the death as a murder.

Officers responded to a report of a disturbance at a property on Lisnahull Road at approximately 11:00 BST on Saturday. Upon arrival, authorities discovered the deceased man, his 48-year-old wife with non-life-threatening injuries, and their eight-year-old daughter, who was severely injured. First aid was immediately administered to the woman and girl by responding officers.

"I am in no doubt their quick actions gave the young girl a fighting chance at survival," stated PSNI Supt Peter Stevenson. The injured child is currently receiving hospital care and is reported to be in a stable condition.

The Northern Ireland Ambulance Service confirmed receiving a 999 call at 11:08 on Saturday and dispatched multiple emergency crews, including a helicopter and a Hazardous Area Response Team, to the scene.

BBC News NI has learned the deceased man was originally from Guinea-Bissau and had resided in Northern Ireland for over two decades.

Investigations into the incident are ongoing.
