Charlie Kirk's parents and widow, Erika Kirk, are scheduled to appear in court next week for a key pretrial hearing for Tyler Robinson, the man accused of his assassination. This marks the first time Kirk's family will be in the courtroom with the suspect.

Robinson, 23, is accused of shooting Kirk on September 10, 2025, an event that occurred in front of thousands of students at Utah Valley University. The shooting happened two months before the 2026 presidential election. Robinson faces a potential death penalty if convicted, a sentence prosecutors intend to seek after a judge denied the defense's request to remove that possibility on June 26.

The hearing, scheduled to last a week, will take place in Utah. Prosecutors plan to present forensic analyses, surveillance video, witness statements, autopsy findings, and alleged confessions from Robinson.

While Erika Kirk has taken an active role since her husband's death, assuming leadership of Turning Point USA, Kirk's parents, Robert and Kathryn Kirk, have largely remained out of the public eye. They are based in Illinois, where Charlie Kirk was raised by his moderate Republican parents. His mother reportedly worked as a mental health counselor, and his father was involved in construction and owned an architecture firm, with a resume that included work on Trump Tower in Manhattan.

While Kirk's parents have largely stayed out of the spotlight, Senator Marsha Blackburn posted a photo with when Trump honored Charlie with a posthumous Presidential Medal of Freedom

Charlie Kirk was a prominent conservative activist and a close ally of former President Donald Trump. In October, Trump posthumously awarded Kirk the Presidential Medal of Freedom.

Robinson has not yet entered a plea. The court has also ruled that his transgender lover, Lance Twiggs, 22, who was living with Robinson at the time of the alleged murder, does not need to testify in person at the hearing. Twiggs has cooperated with authorities and told investigators about text messages sent by Robinson during the 33 hours he was on the run, which allegedly detailed his involvement in the shooting and attempts to evade capture. Twiggs has not been charged in connection with the incident.
