Chantel and Wyatt, contestants on the reality television show "The Block," have exited the competition just two weeks into its current season. Their departure followed an explosive clash with host Scott Cam and a significant budget overrun.
The couple was notably absent from the show's set on Monday night, after having previously indicated they were considering leaving. Their "Block" journey has been marked by challenges, including a cheating scandal and a poor performance in the first room reveal.
Rule Breach and Tense Meetings
Trouble began during an episode where foreman Dan discovered Chantel and Wyatt enlisting a tradesperson to assist with painting, a violation of "The Block's" primary rule that contestants must complete all painting themselves. Chantel claimed the infraction was an unintentional mistake, but other contestants suggested it may have been pre-meditated.
The incident led to two contentious body corporate meetings, which reportedly left lingering resentment among the remaining teams.
Financial Difficulties
Compounding the rule breach was a significant financial setback. For the first challenge, contestants were required to nominate a budget and adhere to it. Chantel and Wyatt nominated $8,966 but ended up spending $20,700, exceeding their budget by nearly $12,000. Both contestants expressed shock at the overspending.
Following the room reveal and the budget news, Chantel was heard telling Wyatt that she no longer wanted to continue with the show, with Wyatt agreeing. Their absence from the worksite on Monday night suggested they might follow through on their intention to leave.
Confrontation with Host
During a confrontation with host Scott Cam, Wyatt expressed frustration with his portrayal on the show, stating, "I pride myself on integrity, I pride myself on being a good human. And you're making me look like a piece of s**t, Scotty." Cam attempted to dissuade them from leaving, but the couple appeared resolute.
Chantel and Wyatt are the latest in a series of contestants to leave "The Block" prematurely in recent years. In 2022, Elle Ferguson and Joel Patfull departed early in the season, and in 2024, Jesse and Paige quit five weeks into filming after experiencing heated on-camera arguments.
