Channel Seven has decided not to air an interview with Sydney Swans player Isaac Heeney that was filmed a day before he became involved in an alleged sexual assault investigation. The interview, part of the program "Unfiltered" and conducted by Hamish McLachlan at Melbourne's Pullman Hotel, reportedly covered Heeney's relationship, wedding plans, and future aspirations.
The hotel is the same location where police are investigating an alleged incident involving a woman and several Sydney Swans players. Heeney, 30, was understood to have discussed his relationship with fiancée Steffie Waters and their plans for marriage during the hour-long conversation.
Following the allegations, the couple's relationship has reportedly come under significant strain. Waters has traveled to Noosa to be with her family while the investigation continues. She was observed by the Daily Mail appearing distressed and without her engagement ring while with her father.
A source told the Herald Sun that the interview "will never see the light of day." The decision by Channel Seven comes as sponsors reportedly begin to distance themselves from the AFL star.
Club Sanctions and Police Investigation
Separately, the Sydney Swans club has stood down five players—Isaac Heeney, Chad Warner, Riley Bice, Nick Blakey, and James Jordon—for the remainder of the 2026 AFL season. The club cited breaches of its standards, including staying out late, consuming alcohol, and bringing women back to the Pullman East Melbourne hotel in the early hours of Monday morning.
Victoria Police's sex crimes squad is investigating an alleged sexual assault at the hotel. The investigation is focusing on Heeney, who spoke with police on Monday before returning to Sydney. No charges have been laid, and all players involved have denied any wrongdoing. Detectives are expected to travel to Sydney to formally interview the players after the woman at the center of the allegations made a formal complaint on Tuesday.
Sources indicate the players were allegedly in a hotel room with women for private lap dances. The woman at the center of the complaint, who was reportedly naked and possibly locked out of the room, approached Swans officials in the lobby to retrieve her belongings. Police were called after she was later seen crying in a hotel restroom.
The Sydney Swans issued a joint apology on behalf of the five suspended players, stating their behavior fell "well short of the standards expected of us and the values of our club." The apology acknowledged letting down partners, families, members, supporters, teammates, and the wider community. The players have accepted the club's sanction and stated their focus will be on rebuilding trust.
