A millionaire fashion executive has filed a lawsuit against a beachfront dog hotel in Malibu, alleging that persistent noise from the facility has ruined his quality of life at his $16 million mansion. Kamran Razavi, founder of the luxury goods website REKLAIM, claims the operation of The Malibu Dog Hotel constitutes a nuisance and violates local noise ordinances.
Razavi, who relocated to Malibu last year after losing his previous home in a wildfire, asserts in the lawsuit that the constant barking from dogs at the hotel interferes with his and his guests' comfortable use of his property. The suit states that the hotel permits dogs to bark "loudly and incessantly" in exterior areas, creating "sustained and excessive noise that is audible to Plaintiff in and around Plaintiff’s residence."
The Malibu Dog Hotel, originally established in 1948 as The Sandpiper Kennels, sits on approximately 1.5 acres and offers ocean views for its canine clients. The property has undergone ownership changes and rebranding over the decades, becoming The Malibu Dog Hotel in 2015. It charges $65 per night per dog and advertises services including overnight stays. Online testimonials for the hotel are largely positive, with clients praising the staff's familiarity with their pets and the quality of the facilities.
Razavi's lawsuit details that he has made multiple attempts to resolve the issue with the hotel's management, but claims no mitigation has occurred. According to individuals familiar with the neighborhood, the hotel has been a long-standing issue, with one resident noting that the dogs "bark non-stop all day" and that the facility appears "outdated."
The lawsuit seeks $500,000 in damages. Razavi, who began his first business at age 14 in Ohio, is known for his company REKLAIM, which deals in authenticated used high-end luxury goods. Cher is also listed as a resident in the affluent neighborhood adjacent to the dog hotel.
