Thunder Valley Casino Resort in Lincoln, California, drew criticism for promoting a Bruno Mars tribute concert and describing guests as "partying non-stop" on social media just hours after a stabbing incident left five employees injured. The casino's social media post on Thursday, the day after the attack, made no mention of the violent event that occurred Wednesday evening.
The incident took place around 7 p.m. when Joseph Naugle, 22, allegedly stabbed five of his co-workers at the casino's Dos Coyotes Border Cafe. Authorities reported that Naugle, a resident of Roseville, was apprehended by deputies within minutes of their arrival, still wearing his kitchen apron. The Placer County Sheriff's Office stated that all five victims knew the suspect, and no additional suspects are being sought. The motive behind the alleged stabbings remains unclear.
Paramedics were seen treating the injured employees at the scene amidst the sounds of nearby slot machines. Of the five victims, one was hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries, while the other four were treated and released at the location. The casino itself was not evacuated, though the restaurant where the stabbings occurred was closed.
Naugle is currently being held at the Placer County Jail on attempted murder charges. His mugshot, showing him with an "unflinching death stare," was released by the sheriff's office.
The Bruno Mars tribute band, advertised in the casino's social media post, is described as the "#1 Bruno Mars Tribute Show that has captured hearts and ignited stages across the globe." The concert had been previously scheduled.
Thunder Valley Casino Resort is situated approximately 27 miles northeast of Sacramento.
