Carole Davis, the 68-year-old model and actress perhaps best known for her role as Amalita Amalfi on "Sex and the City," was recently seen in Los Angeles. Davis, who is also the mother of Lauren Silverman, fiancée of media personality Simon Cowell, has had a varied career that began in modeling and transitioned to acting.
Born in London, Davis launched her career in the United States by posing for magazines such as Playboy in the 1970s and Penthouse in the 1980s. She has stated that by 1978 she had posed for Playboy, and two years later was featured as a Penthouse Pet of the Month under the name Tamara Kapitas.
Davis's acting career began when she accompanied a friend to an audition. The director sought someone who could speak Italian and sing opera, and Davis, who possessed those skills, was offered the role. Her first film was the 1981 comedy "COD." She later appeared in "Piranha II: The Spawning," which marked James Cameron's feature directorial debut, and Garry Marshall's 1984 romantic comedy "The Flamingo Kid." In 1987, she appeared in the fantasy comedy "Mannequin."
On "Sex and the City," Davis played Amalita Amalfi, a socialite who takes Carrie Bradshaw under her wing. The character was described by Cynthia Nixon's Miranda Hobbes as a "hooker with a passport."
Beyond her acting and modeling work, Davis also has a co-writing credit on Prince's song "Slow Love" from his 1987 album "Sign o' the Times."
Davis is the mother of Lauren Silverman, who became engaged to Simon Cowell in 2021. Their relationship gained public attention in 2013.
Davis was previously married to Steven Davis, with whom she shares her daughter Lauren. Her second marriage was to "Saturday Night Live" star Kevin Rooney, who died in 2022.
