The Arizona Cardinals have reached an agreement with quarterback Jacoby Brissett on a restructured one-year contract, guaranteeing him $15.5 million. The deal allows Brissett to potentially earn up to $21 million through incentives.
Brissett had been seeking a raise from the $4.8 million salary he was set to earn in the second year of his original two-year contract, which he signed with the intention of backing up Kyler Murray. However, Brissett took over as the starter for 12 games last season when Murray was injured, leading the team to a 1-11 record. He sought compensation more aligned with starting quarterbacks now that Murray has been released and is with the Minnesota Vikings.
With the new contract, Brissett's average annual salary now places him around No. 19 among NFL quarterbacks, ahead of some players on rookie deals. At 33 years old, Brissett is largely viewed as a temporary solution for the Cardinals. The team may look to replace him during the season with fellow veteran Gardner Minshew or rookie Carson Beck, and is expected to be in the market for a quarterback in the highly anticipated 2027 NFL Draft.
Brissett's career record as a starter is 20-45. The Cardinals are focused on developing a young offensive core, including two-time Pro Bowl tight end Trey McBride and rookie running back Jeremiyah Love.
The Cardinals' training camp opened on July 24, 2026, ahead of the Hall of Fame Game against the Panthers on August 6. Elsewhere in quarterback contract discussions, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Baker Mayfield are reportedly nearing a resolution, with the Baltimore Ravens and Lamar Jackson also having an outstanding contract situation.
