Lawmakers at the Mato Grosso Legislative Assembly in Cuiabá, Brazil, encountered an unusual disruption during a voting session on July 30 when a group of capybaras entered the building. The rodents, described as relaxed and calm, wandered through the government complex, briefly drawing attention away from official business.

Video captured by legislative staffer Nayara Bueno showed the capybaras entering the building and moving through its halls. Bueno noted that these visits are not uncommon, stating, "They show up here quite often, so we’ve gotten used to seeing them." Officials reported that the animals caused no damage to the state legislature.

The legislative building is situated near a park that houses a variety of wildlife, providing the capybaras with easy access to the surrounding government area. Capybaras, native to South America, are known for being social, semi-aquatic mammals that often travel in groups and inhabit wetlands. These large rodents, which can weigh up to 175 pounds, have also gained popularity online for their placid demeanor around people and other animals.
