David Bonin, a 58-year-old Canadian from Montreal, attended the America 250 celebrations in New York City and found himself reconsidering his ancestors' allegiance.
Bonin, whose lineage traces back to British Loyalists who settled in Niagara Falls during the Revolutionary War, told The Post that witnessing the July 4th festivities convinced him that the American colonies should have separated from British rule.
He had not previously attended a July 4th celebration in the United States but decided to visit for the country's 250th-anniversary events. Bonin drove from Montreal on Friday night, parking his car in Sleepy Hollow, New York, before taking a train to New York City to observe the Sail4th 250 Parade of Sail.
"They really get into it. They do everything super well," Bonin remarked, adding that the experience had prompted him to rethink his views on Canada.
