A father walking with his 6-year-old daughter in San Jose, California, was confronted by a woman who falsely accused him of sex trafficking the child. The incident, captured on video, occurred on a Sunday when the pair were in their neighborhood. The woman, driving a car, can be heard in the footage claiming to work with federal authorities and asserting that she was recording the interaction.
"I’m just making sure that you’re not sex trafficking this poor little girl who’s very unhappy to be with you and doesn’t look like you," the woman stated. She further elaborated, "That’s a white little girl and you are a man of color. So I believe you are either buying or selling or trafficking this child."
The father, who identified himself as brown, explained that his daughter is half-white and that the woman had subjected them to harassment multiple times in their neighborhood. He stated in the video, "My 6-year-old (half-white) and I (brown) were harassed by this woman multiple times in our neighborhood in San Jose, CA."
The woman continued to record the pair, questioning whether the father was legally in the country and referencing facial recognition technology. She eventually drove away but later returned, delivering a religious tirade that included the phrase, "My daily test will be to ferret out the wicked and free the city of God from their grave. Burn in hell you will."
The father reported the incident to the San Jose Police Department. He later shared the video online, asking viewers how they would have handled the situation. Online reactions to the video, including those on Reddit, expressed disbelief and criticized the woman's assumptions. Some users pointed out the possibility of step-parents or adoption and questioned why the woman interfered.
The identity of the woman and the veracity of her claim to be working with federal authorities remain unverified.
